History

Formerly, This plateau’s capital located in Ban Don. In 1890, Bourgeois- a colonialist man had submission from Khumjunop- the chieftain and the King of Elephant Hunters, continued to bribe Ama Y Thuot Chieftain in order to lay out the basic for building a new capital here.

Bourgeois had seen future of this large, flat and fertility land area. 14 years later viz 1904, French Colonial moved the capital from Ban Don to Buon Ma Thuot. On November, 2nd, 1904, Governor – General of Indochina issued the Decree regarding to establish Daklak province, the township was located in Buon Ma Thuot

BuonMaThuot, under the protection of French resident superior in CenterState (Trung ky - An Nam). Specially, one of French enjoys is Sabatier wanted to conserve standing aloof of the Highlands. Getting this development, the French resident superior in CentralState launched the degree on establishing BuonMaThuot town. After the days of revolution 1975, DakLak Party Committee and BuonMaThuot Town Party Committee guided all of cadres and people of town to work and create by heart, to overcome most of difficulties, to develop the town richly. On January 21st, 1995, the Government launched The Degree No.08/CP to upgrade the town to be BuonMaThuot city belonging to DakLakProvince. Presently, BuonMaThuot is not only a well-known place at home but also in abroad.
