Hoi An Events & Festivals
Throughout the year Hoi An hosts many festivals and events, some of which are unique to the city and others that are celebrated throughout all of Vietnam. Note that most events are based on the lunar calendar, as opposed to the Western calendar.
A colorful festival that is unique to this city is called the Hoi An Legendary Night . This event is held on the 14th evening of every lunar month. During this festival, the city lights are shut off and the streets get illuminated by an array of colorful lanterns. Motor vehicles are not allowed in the city during this evening, which allows pedestrians to walk the streets care-free, enjoying the relaxing mood, cultural music, and atmosphere similar to ancient times. There are many activities and performances available to people throughout the city.
The Mid Autumn Festival is celebrated throughout all of Vietnam, including Hoi An. This event is held during the lunar calendar’s 14th and 15th day of the month equivalent to August. Drumming, moon cakes, lion dances and unicorn dances are all involved in this festival. The Lunar New Year is celebrated throughout all of Vietnam with many unique and colorful traditions.
